Blogs? What Is Blogging?

Today, wherever we live on the planet, the Internet plays a major role in our lives. It is the fastest way to communicate with friends on the other side of the world and it’s the world’s biggest library… the richest source of information when you have to research for something.

One of the latest trends is blogging. And the blog got to be a contender for the crown when you’re looking for the most successful way to expressing yourself on the Internet.

So what does blogging mean? Answer: Different things to different people - so let’s explore that some more…

A blog is a web log and it grows out of the personal need to express feelings or thoughts, share opinions, spread news or simply have fun. A blog is actually an individual web page - it’s really like a diary that you keep online. You can put anything you like in your online diary. Just remember that it is public. Anybody can read your blog.

People are attracted by the “blogging” phenomenon because it presents a superb opportunity to make themselves heard by a specific targeted audience.

The goal and scope of your blog entirely depends on what you the blogger want to achieve. When you’ve got great pieces of news, funny links or a hobby to talk about, a blog may be just the right way to open up to an international community.

Most often, blogs attract more attention than large and well-designed web pages. How is it possible for blogging to have reached such a status?

First of all, blogs are current — they provide fresh and rich informational content, and links to other sites or blogs on the topic. Equally important is focus — blogs zero in on a single issue that is of interest to their regular blog readers.

Blogs often receive more traffic than other web pages. Why? The answer lies in how the search engines work. What a search engine likes most is fresh and high quality content. Blogs tend to provide this and that explains the high profile that blogs and the blogging phenomenon have managed to achieve ahead of normal web pages. That’s why blog traffic numbers can be high.

If blogging started as the perfect diary online, it has gained some additional dimensions. Notably, a commercial orientation. Yes, Virginia, you can make money blogging. In fact, I know of one British fellow who has bought himself a large house with the money he has made from blogging. More on that later…

Let’s say you like gardening, and you’ve also started your own home based business of growing plants. A blog on flowers and plants where you share your ideas and experience (and yes, throw in some photos for sure) would illustrate the commercial possibilities of a blog. How? Because you could also write about gardening books or e-books along with telling people where they can buy their gardening supplies. In other words, you not only talk about the joys and challenges of gardening… you also use your blog as a great promotional tool to sell gardening stuff.

So blogging is not only a neat and easy way to share your ideas with the world, it is also a powerful method for online marketing. Because of how easy blogs are to run, Internet profits are now open to people all over the world.

How To Promote Your Blog With Great Content

Your Own Web Real Estate

Once you have generated articles, either by writing them yourself or buying them from a professional article service or freelancer, you’re ready to start placing them on the Internet and getting visibility. You can start by placing the articles on your own website.

There are several different ways to use articles on your website to get and keep business. This article will give you information about the big benefits of using articles on your own website. Plus info on what they’ll do for your traffic, and how to place them.

Content Is Important

In the world of Internet marketing, content is king. Providing a number of articles that are free for your visitors to view, read, and distribute is a great way to increase visibility, improve your website rank, earn more return visitors, and convert more visitors to paying customers.

What’s more important content or pages?

Quality articles provide quality content for your site. You could have many many website pages without good quality content and not increase your search engine traffic at all.

You have probably heard about the importance of confusing things like metatags and metadescriptions. These are part of your website’s coding; this is text that doesn’t appear on your screen when your site is being viewed. However, these tags don’t matter as much now as they used to.

Search engine robots, little programs that crawl the web logging every page they find, no longer pay much attention to metatags. More importance is given to a website’s content than all other factors. This is why you work hard. Your hard work and your investment in professional articles pays off. The more content you have on your website, the higher your website ranking will climb.

Don’t expect your website to shoot to Google’s top ten the minute you put up your fresh new articles. Search engines take time to update the vast amount of information available on the web. However, the sooner you get started, the sooner you will start to see improved results on search engines for your website. Once your information is catalogued, you can remain high in the results ranking as long as you keep updating your website with fresh content.

When content is not enough: building trust with your customers. Many webmasters put up a lot of content to their websites, and then sit back and wonder why the business isn’t pouring in. The reason, is trust.

In order to be a successful Internet marketer, you must build trust. Providing free, high quality information for customers is a step in the right direction, but it is not the be-all and end-all of marketing. The average consumer must be exposed to your business three to seven times before they’ll consider making a purchase.

Are There Any Profitable Blog Niches Left?

Many successful blog owners have chosen a niche in which they know something about or have passion about. Rare is the blog owner who has jumped into a niche they knew nothing about and have been successful. Sure, we all have a passion for money, but that alone doesn’t qualify any of us as experts. The successful blogger will search his or her interest to find a profitable niche and then dominate that niche for every penny it’s worth!

What we’ll be learning in this article is the process in which you’ll use to find a profitable niche. There are a lot of niches out there. The problem is, most are not profitable or very difficult to monetize. Our goal here is to find the ones that are under utilized and have an income potential better than average.

Singling Out Your Interest That May Be Profitable

One of the first considerations for a new blogger is his personal interests. This is important because a blogger who is passionate and knowledgeable about a particular subject will not only have an easy time coming up with ideas for new blog posts but will also likely be highly successful. This success will likely be attributable to the fact that blog visitors can sense his passion for the subject matter and greatly appreciate the knowledgeable posts which are informative and accurate.

The interests of the blogger may run the gamut from subjects which are widely popular to subjects which are of interest to only a small subset of the population. However, there will likely be interested readers regardless of the subject of the blog. Therefore bloggers are not discouraged from opting to blog about even the most obscure subjects. However, bloggers who are seeking financial gain through high blog traffic should consider selecting a topic which appeals to a larger audience.

Sizing Up Your Competition

Now that you have your interest written down, go to the search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN and search for other blogs on your interest. Take note of the quantity of blogs on your subject and their quality. This will tell you whether or not your subject is already saturated with bloggers. Chances are its not, but you must first do this little part of research in order to determine the amount of competition and whether they are dominating your niche subject or not.

Deciding What the Purpose of Your Blog Should Be

Another important consideration for bloggers is the purpose of the blogs. Blogs can be created for a variety of reasons including financial compensation, personal use or to promote a cause. Bloggers who are starting a blog for personal use may only wish to consider their own interests when starting a blog because they are not likely seeking high blog traffic. However, bloggers who are creating a blog for purposes of generating a profit or promoting a cause do have to consider factors such as the ability to generate blog traffic.

In these cases the blogger should choose a subject which appeals to a large audience. Additionally, the Internet should not already be saturated with blogs on this subject because it will likely be difficult for the new blog to garner a share of blog traffic. Finally, blog owners should consider the quality of the blog they are capable of creating on a particular subject. The blogger should choose a subject where he is confident he can not only make regular posts but also ensure these posts are original, informative and interesting.
