VPS.net hosting means flexibility
February 20th, 2010Company Overview
VPS.net offers virtual private server cloud hosting giving you the control of your hosting plan. Cloud hosting continuously adjusts the server requirements your sites uses basing on the traffic and content. You only pay for what you use, rather than paying for a static amount each month, whether you use the space and bandwidth or not.
Offerings
VPS.net allows its customers to create their own custom virtual private server, using nodes of server space at $20 or less each. There’s a discount for bulk services, so buying more you save more. For example, buying at least two nodes reduces the cost to $19/each or $38 a month, and buying 6 nodes – the allegedly most popular option – to $90/month or $15 per node. Each node of server space contains: 256MB of RAM, 10GB storage, 250GB transfer and a certain CPU share. Each of these nodes can be subsequently added together to create a virtual machine, where you select the operating system you want to install. Operating system options include: Ubuntu, CentOS, Gentoo, Debian and Turnkey Linux. Temporary servers are available for $1 per day to help with surges in traffic that you don’t expect to stick, such as when you are running a special promotion.
Pros
Data centers are located throughout the United States and the United Kingdom
Buy only as much as you need-including temporary servers to handle small traffic spikes expected to last a short time
Affordable pricing
Daily billing allows you to pay as little as possible
You can choose the Linux distribution you want to install on your virtual system
It comes with CannyBill, which allows you to resell the VPS.net hosting services to your clients, creating another source of income and/or paying for your own hosting use.
The client controls the virtual system completely and, having enough nodes in the account, can create several different ones to run various websites.
Cons
Not designed for those who only need shared hosting
Not designed for those who are not familiar with what they are doing
Doesn’t provide Windows based hosting
The Verdict
Vps.net is one of the Top 10 VPS providers in the industry, for those who need scalability and are tired of being stuck with a monthly plan costing $50 or more, VPS.net hosting is the perfect choice. For those not concerned with scalability and whose sites are relatively small, sticking with shared hosting won’t hurt. In both cases though, paying only for what you use is an excellent approach to web hosting.
